Summer Heat

This morning I was having a little bit of
Nostalgia.
I woke up hot, but a cool breeze was coming off the
ceiling fan, so I stuck
One
leg out the covers.
Lol; immediately I was transfered back to
my childhood home.
Back to a time  in Memphis when the nights were
Sweltering hot and
my Sister and I would wake up and stand in front
of the
window unit
with our night gowns over our heads.
Sometimes I'd be so tired I couldn't even make the twelve steps
to the living room
so I'd resort to sticking one leg out the covers
for a few seconds.
Only just a few seconds. Anything longer
and I would freeze.

So this morning as I stuck that one leg out...
I remembered.
It was nice.

Lost & Found....?

Earlier today Ron and I got into
a scuffle...
Nothing major, just a little
light wrestling.
Well, not really that light.
He twisted my arm a
little rough,
which in return
produced the waterworks.
So, then a pillow fight ensued
wherein I won.
All the exhaustion caused us to
fall into a dreamlike
state on the
memoryfoam.

Oh, I forgot.
During the "mock" fight
He dared me to give him
his ring back.
So I did.
I threw it at him.
And then the dreamlike state ensued.
That was earlier today,
around like 4 pm.
It's nearly ten o'clock now.

And I haven't had my property returned.
He says it doesn't belong to me
until we're married.
(Stupid me had to tell him that when I was a naive 1L, lol)
Anyway, it's not like he could give it back to me....
the damn FOOL has lost it!

yes!

He lost my engangement ring.
Now he is tearing the apartment apart trying to find it.
All I can do to keep the waterworks at bay is to SMH
(shake my head).

Let's retrace his steps.
He whipped the egg whites for the cake...
He floured the pans,
again for the cake...
He sat in the chair up front for some hours
wathcing the First 48 online...
He went running....
Took a shower...
Asked me if I had found the ring....
NOPE!
Oh, that's the exact moment he (I) realized that
he had lost my freagin ring.

So I thought I would blog about it.
But wait, there's more!
I found it!
LOL
Yep, and I haven't told him I have either.
Is that wrong of me?
I think while he sleeping tonight I
will slip it on and just be
wearing it in the morning.

Cause he never should have dared me
and then not given it back
when he said he should.

Oh, it was in the chair.
The same chair he sat in for some hours
watching the First 48.
And, the same chair he took an exacto knife to
the lining to check and see if the
ring had fallen through.
Which happened to be the same chair I sat by and watched this
happen to knowing that
five minutes earlier
I had discovered the ring was tucked into
the sides of the same chair.

But, he will probably never know any of this because
he doesn't read my blog!
LOL.
~ goodnight.

Yum, Tasty!

Okay, so I am so
EXCITED
today because today is
BBQ day!
and.....
I am the GrillMaster.
How fun does that sound?
Yesterday was fun too,
it was my first ever trip to
Sam's Club.
That place has everything in it.
The only thing I wish it had more of was
variety.
It was seriously lacking in that department.
Oh, and some items were more cost effective
at the regular Wal-Mart.
What's up with that?

Anyhoo....
I got off subject.
So, it's a gorgeous day today.
Bright sky above, nice breeze blowing,
low humidity (which is breath of
fresh air in Louisiana),
and a comfortable 82* today.

perfect picnic weather I might add.

I'll be sure to take lots of pics....
gotta run.
I'm 'posed to be at the park by 10:30!

"Your Children Are an Endangered Species"

Question: What if a stranger came up to you on the street with a picture of baby of the same ethnicity as yours and told you he or she was an endandered species? How would feel? How would you react? Would it even make sense to you what they were trying to say?

Well, it didn't to me either when this happened to me the other day.

No, It wasn't a random "crazy" person on the street. I was in my own little bubble of law school and I just so happened to venture into a Women in Law meeting (which I was dragged into by the way) and I was immediately compounded with the below image:

Hmmmmm..... My first question was: "Is this forreal? And where is this billboard located?" Then I asked myself: "How does this make me feel?" Immediately the first thing I thougt of was the Zoo. I mean think a bout it, where are most endangered spiecies  kept for protection? Zoo or Animal Refuges, right? Right! So, I thought they were trying to say our children belong in the zoo. If this is not what you thought, please let me know. It even looks like a Zoo ad to me! But anyway....let me tell you about what the billboard is really about.

Abortion!

Yep, you guessed it, the #1 Hot Topic of all time. Abortion. The billboard is sponsored by a public interest group by the name of Georgia Right to Life (GRL). The billboard is alerting "women of color" that too many of thier children are killed before birth through abortion procedures and that if they do not "take action" that soon black children will become extinct. Right? Because, according to this billboard they are already endangered and what is the next step after that? Extinction? Yeah.

This billboard is political backing for Georgia Senate Bill 529 [SB 529- Prenatal Non-Discrimination Act]. Some  Reproductive Justice activists have coined it the " OG/GYN Criminalization and Racial Discriminization Act." More about Reproductive Justice here. They fear the Bill targets "women of color" by limiting their resources to seek abortions. Let me explain: The bill (which I cannot locate on the internet but only see it referenced in other blogs and news articles)  imposes criminal sanctions on any person, doctor, freind, or foe who  (1) coerces a woman into having an abortion, or (2) performs or obtains an abortion for the purpose with the intent to prevent the birth of the child based upon the race, gender, or color of the baby, or (3) any parent who coerces their child to seek an abortion based upon the race of the father (or mother).

Ok, so what is so bad about that? I mean, none of the above reasons are valid reasons to have an abortion correct? Would you agree? Does it matter that over 18,000 abortions were performed on women of color in Georgia last year? Who account for 59% of all abortions, but are only 30% of the population. Of course the numbers are skewed because private care providers do not have to report abortions unlike Planned Parenthood, so there will be disparity amongst the numbers. Again, what's the problem with that?

I strongly suggest (if you are interested) to follow the provided link above to learn more about the Bill and also read some insight on why this Bill is so bad, because it could be coming to a neighborhood near you. The bill has piqued some interest with other  states, namely Tennessee. But check out the article, cause I'm tired of writing and I have to study.... toodles.
